Television Appearances

Home Painters participated in City TV’s Breakfast TV’s 48 Hour Makeover 3 times last year. Every project we participated in was fun and exciting from start to finish. The time deadlines were the biggest challenges since as a team of Toronto contractors, projects like this can sometime last weeks.  But we are forced to complete them in 2 days or less!  It all makes for some very dramatic sprints to the finish line.

The most memorable deadline crunch makeover was the Bathroom makeover. The time of year was in late July. In late July, humidity was at its worst. This doesn’t bode well for painting in Toronto. Hence, the plaster wasn’t drying during the installation. As a result, we used hair dryers, heat guns, and humidifiers to help dry the plaster faster.  Being the painting contractors, we are always the last ones to work on the project.  Thus, we never ended up getting our call to start painting until 2am on the final evening of the job. Keep in mind Breakfast TV begins at 6am every morning. So that gave us 4 hours to do all the preparation, painting, and cleanup.   That included filling the walls, sanding, caulking, priming and paint 2 coats of paint on everything…AND clean it all up to make it sparkly clean for the TV cameras for 6am that morning!  Bottom line, we managed to finish the painting at about 545am; but we had to rush like crazy to clean up, dust everything, and make it presentable for the City TV cameras and homeowners. Jennifer Valentyne, the City TV host, arrived before we were even ready for her. Nevertheless, she was gracious enough in letting us finish what we had to do before letting the tv crews in at 615am that morning to start filming!

Picture albums of the 3 Breakfast TV 48 hour makeovers:

•    Basement Makeover – This was a challenging one because we had 2 rooms to complete in less than 48 hours!

•    Bathroom Makeover – The most difficult part of this job was due to the humidity the plaster wasn’t drying.  Hence, we didn’t get into start painting until 2am, giving us 4 hours to paint the bathroom before the start of the show!

•    Entrance and Hall – Special Xmas Makeover – This was our most gratifying one since it was a special Christmas makeover.  Its always fun painting when theres anything to do with the christmas spirit!
