Removing nicotine smoke stains can be a bit more of a pain. For instance, if you have even been in a house with indoor smokers, you know the stains I mean. Yellow or brown where maybe it should white? Ever move a picture frame and find a perfect square of a different color wall? Nasty stuff! Now you are looking for a way to remove those stains. Maybe you are finally kicking the habit, or you have purchased a new home. If the previous owners were indoor smokers, then you will definitely be dealing with stains like this. Either way though, you have a few options for removing these smoke stains from the rooms.

Things to know about smoke stains removal

If you are dealing with fire damage, then you will find black streaking on the walls. This area may not be damaged past repair, and your best bet for taking care of these is to get them replaced ASAP. However, you can still try the methods that will be listed.

With cigarette smoke stain removal, it’s a bit of a different story. Smoke from cigarettes contains chemicals like nicotine and tar that release yellow and brown colors in the stains. Additionally, the chemicals are able to seep into the paint and other materials. There are some natural methods for removing the stains, and we will go through them. In the end, chemicals will be your best bet. Things like nicotine and tar can be stubborn. However, take all options into consideration and choose the one that works best for you.

METHODS YOU CAN USE FOR SMOKE STAIN REMOVAL

I will start with the less drastic and work out way from there. Depending on how bad the smoke stains are, you may have to try a few things before you find what works. I’m sure you have thought about just painting the whole room or even the house at this point! Don’t worry though, you will only need that as your last ditch effort.

The natural solution

If you are someone who tries not to use chemicals if needed, this will be your first option.

The Chemical Solution

Now we’re talking! This is the next choice before our last ditch effort, for our smoke stain removal. There are a lot options you have for this when it comes to product. You can check different reviews online and see what you like best. You can go with the old school, and use Ammonia or a concentrated bleach product. There are also products that are made specifically for this job as well

Tools you will need

 Bucket

> Rubber Gloves

> Vinegar

> Cloths or Sponge

> Water

The Steps

  1. Start by pouring the vinegar into the bucket. I suggest adding hot water, but try not to dilute the vinegar to much.
  2.  Make sure to have your gloves on. Soak your sponge or cloth and scrub the area. If needed, try rougher sponges as well.
  3. Do these steps, and repeat. If it doesn’t seem to do to much, then maybe try moving on to other methods.
  4. You can also try natural soaps and cleaning products as well.

Things you will need

> Gloves

> Mask (depending on what you are using, but recommended)

> Bucket

> Sponges/Cloths

> Ammonia/Bleach or Product of choice

 Gloves

> Mask (depending on what you are using, but recommended)

> Bucket

> Sponges/Cloths

> Ammonia/Bleach or Product of choice

The Steps

  1. Much like the method before we are going to start off with warm water in the bucket. Mix your product of choice (should have ratios for using with water) in with the warm water.
  2. Making sure you have your gloves on, start by blotting and soaking the area.
  3. You can then start to scrub, and you may really need to scrub!
  4. Repeat the last step over until you are satisfied.
  5. Make sure to rinse and wipe down your walls with clean water afterwards.

Final option for smoke stain removal

Well if the cleaning tips and instructions weren’t able to get your walls clean, here’s what I have left for you. Smoke stain removal can be a real pain, so, why even remove them! If it’s going to be to much for you, then why don’t you just cover those unsightly things up. A fresh paint job may be exactly what you need.
