Niagara is a Toronto neighbourhood named after Niagara Street, which runs through its center. Its boundaries include Queen Street West to the north and Bathurst Street on the eastern side. Canadian Railway tracks form the southern boundary, and Strachan Avenue forms the western boundary. Niagara has a rich history dating back to 1793 when it used to be a part of the military garrison. In the 1850s, the neighbourhood became a major industrial center.
The demand for housing for the factory employees gave rise to several residential developments. Queen Street West is one of the main commercial streets and has an eclectic mix of bookstores, art galleries, fashion stores, antique shops, restaurants and natural food markets. The other commercial street is King Street, which features restaurants and stores.
