Transform Your Washroom Into A Bright and Calming Oasis Banner

A relaxing washroom can make all the difference in your day. You’ll feel more refreshed and energized, ready to face whatever comes next. Whether you want to transform your entire bathroom or just a single corner of it, there are plenty of ways to bring calmness and tranquillity into your everyday life.

Transforming Your Washroom

It may be time for your bathroom to get a much-needed makeover. A simple and effective way to brighten up the look of your washroom is to give it a fresh coat of paint. Bathrooms are usually smaller than any other room in the house. This means painting it shouldn’t take as long as a larger room does. There are also ways to reduce the time that it takes to paint your washroom with just s a bit of preparation. Here are some tips:

How Do I Prepare My Bathroom Walls For Painting?

Step 1: Prepare the Bathroom for Painting

  • Take down any objects screwed into the wall – like towel bars, mirrors, or shelves.
  • Check for any accessories near the sink or tub and put them away in a cabinet or closet.
  • Remove electrical outlets, wall switch covers and cabinet handles or knobs.
  • You don’t have to remove the toilet. This is only necessary if you want easier access to the wall behind it.

Step 2: Painters Tape and Dropcloths

  • Line baseboard mouldings, doors and window frames with painter’s tape. This stops paint from dripping on areas you don’t want to be painted.
  • Choose tape with a width of at least two inches for maximum coverage.
  • Use your putty knife to smooth down the tape. This makes sure that it is fully stuck to the wall. No paint should get in between the tape and the wall.
  • Place drop cloths on the floor and over the counters and bathroom vanity.
  • The edges of the drop cloths have to be as close to the baseboards as possible. This prevents the paint from dripping onto the exposed areas.

Step 3: Paint the Ceiling

  • Start from the top down. Paint the bathroom ceiling first if you can.
  • A brush should be used where the ceiling connects to the wall for closer accuracy.
  • You can also use an edging tool to paint the edges around light fixtures.
  • Let it dry and put a second coat on the bathroom ceiling.

Step 4: Paint Washroom Walls

  • Apply primer. Dark rooms need more primer.
  • Use an edging tool to paint around mirrors and permanent light fixtures.
  • Begin in one corner, then work your way around the room.
  • When the edges are completed, use the roller to fill in the larger spots.
  • Use a smaller paintbrush for tight spots.
  • Let the first coat dry for 3-4 hours.
  • When the first coat has dried, apply a second.

Just complete these four steps and you’re on your way to bathroom renovation bliss!

Bathroom Painting Tips

  • Keep your rollers and brushes wet in between paintings by wrapping them with aluminum foil or plastic wrap.
  • If there is any mould on the wall, make sure to remove it before painting.
  • A semi-gloss finish that is mould and mildew resistant is recommended.
  • Paint bathroom walls and ceiling the same colour.
  • Gently tap the brush inside the can to drain the excess paint.

Make sure you take preparation seriously, bathrooms have a lot more accessories than regular rooms so be careful not to get paint on places you don’t want.

Bathroom Ideas for Small Bathrooms

A small bathroom can feel like an impossible space to decorate. If you don’t have the budget or time to do extensive renovations, try these easy ideas:

  1. Add a mirror above your sink. It will make the room appear larger and brighter by reflecting light from windows or lights in the room. Mirrors also reflect light from any other sources that are in the room, helping them illuminate more efficiently.
  2. If there’s no natural light available then place spotlights around the room for some extra illumination. Install a skylight if possible or add windows where there aren’t any.
  3. Paint the walls with a light colour such as white or cream. This is how to make a bathroom look bigger and brighter. Try to keep the colour scheme neutral so that it doesn’t overwhelm you or your guests. If you want to add some personality, choose a patterned tile or one with a subtle design. You can add accents with accessories such as towels or bath mats, but don’t go overboard on these items.
  4. Don’t fill your bathroom with clutter or unnecessary items; keep it clean, fresh, and organized.
  5. Try to replace some of your regular storage with floor-to-ceiling cabinets or wall-mounted shelves. Consider using recessed medicine cabinets instead of standing ones; this way, they won’t take up any valuable space in your bathroom.
